Answering Common Questions on Full-Service Dentistry

Here are the answers to the top questions that we hear from our patients and website visitors. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!

What makes you different than any other dental practice I can visit?

Rejuvenation dentistry and sedation dentistry set Dr. Makarita’s practice apart. In fact, Dr. Makarita offers “one-stop-shopping” dentistry. He is so thoroughly trained in every phase of dentistry that he is capable of performing any treatment that you may need. This means that we rarely send you to a specialist. And it also means that all major treatments are performed with the patient under sedation, eliminating patient anxiety and saving time by performing several procedures in one single visit.

Will I be charged if I need to cancel an appointment?

If you must make a cancellation, please do so at least 48 hours before the appointment. Otherwise, you will be charged a substantial cancellation fee in most cases. We are aware that most cancellations are made because of anxiety, and we want to assure you that we make every effort to make your visit with us relaxing and comfortable.

What do I do if I have an emergency when the office is closed?

We have taken steps to ensure that you never feel abandoned. We want to be there for you. Therefore, we always give our patients Dr. Markarita’s home telephone number; or you may call the office at to obtain our emergency phone number. However, we are pretty certain you are unlikely to ever need the number because our thorough care helps our patients avoid emergency situations.

Do you accept my insurance plan or offer payment options?

Our goal is to assist you in maximizing your insurance benefits. We are happy to fill out, file, and mail your forms to expedite your reimbursements. Since payment is due at the time services are rendered, we accept all major credit cards, cash, or check. We also offer customized financing to meet your needs, ranging from six-month to 15-year terms, depending on credit approval. This allows you the convenience of making your payment after the insurance company has paid you directly.

What type of sedation do you offer? What affect will it have on me?

Sedation is another customized service we offer. Depending on the nature and duration of the treatment, coupled with the intensity of the anxiety level of the patient, we offer the pill form of conscious sedation all the way to “sleep” sedation that allows you to wake up with the smile of your dreams!

Will I feel anything while having the procedure done?

For those who choose to allow NO sensation to get through a dental procedure, general “sleep” sedation is available. We will have a Board Certified Anesthesiologist by your side through the entire appointment to ensure your safety and comfort.

Do you accept referrals?

We appreciate referrals from other dental offices, as well as recommendations by our patients to their families and friends. In fact, for referrals from our patients, we even offer a gift, such as a product or credit toward service.

Can you show me what my smile can look like ahead of time?

Yes! We routinely use various techniques to help our patients visualize the end results of cosmetic and restorative work. Typically we will ask a number of questions, take wax impressions of your mouth, use the impressions as a template for temporary teeth, and then make additional changes and enhancements…thus generating a 3-D model that demonstrates accurately the beautiful changes that are possible for your new smile.

I want my front teeth to look better, but I do not want to wear braces. What would you recommend?

For slightly crooked or unevenly worn teeth, a bit of reshaping and the addition of porcelain veneers may be sufficient to give them a bright, uniform look. In other cases, it may be necessary to use “invisible” braces. We’d be happy to consult with you about a treatment plan that will accomplish your objectives.

How does Dr. Makarita keep up to date on all of the current techniques and materials?

Dr. Makarita devotes significant amounts of time to continuing education studies and also ensures that our team pursues ongoing studies. We all study the latest techniques and materials in dentistry. Dr. Makarita provides in-office training and presents lectures to dental professionals on neuromuscular dentistry.

What is “smile analysis” and “smile design?”

In smile analysis, we look at all of the factors that impact final results: the shape, size, and position of your teeth; your smile line; the shape of your face; and your overall facial appearance. We use our diagnostic findings, photographs and computer images, and take into account your desires and physical limitations to make sure that we’re all in agreement as to the objectives, approach, and outcome. After this analysis, we’re prepared to perform smile design… relying on Dr. Makarita’s expertise to establish the form, position, color, and shape of your new smile. Our goal is to bring about an attractive, youthful balance to your teeth, lips, gum line, and facial structure

My spouse snores and keeps me up at night. Can you prescribe an appliance that prevents snoring?

We encourage you to have your spouse come in for a consultation and analysis with Dr. Makarita to determine the cause of his or her snoring. In some cases, a person may actually stop breathing for short periods during the night — a condition called sleep apnea. In other cases, snoring can be caused by enlarged anatomical structures within the mouth and throat. In the latter situation, we can prescribe and fit a special appliance called a snore-guard, which gently holds the mouth and throat open during relaxed sleep, and thus prevents snoring.
